Diggers Upset Argos 75-68

BUTTE, Mont. – Playing their third ranked opponent in the last four games, Montana Tech finally got the upset they have been battling so hard for. The Orediggers knock off the No. 18 University of Great Falls Argos 75-68.

Montana Tech (7-6, 1-1) gets over the hump and wins their first Frontier Conference game. The Orediggers just missed defeating No. 16 Montana State Northern on Thursday and No. 3 Our Lady of the Lake last week.

Monica Landdeck led both squads with a season high 29 points. The junior transfer hit 12 of 23 from the field and went 4 for 10 from three point range.

The Orediggers charged out of the gate to a 22-13 lead after the first quarter. The Argos chiseled away at the deficit the next two quarters pulling within one 55-54 at the end of the third.

The Argos took a one point lead briefly in the fourth but Martha Dembek rebounded her own shot and put it back in with 5:03 to play to give the Orediggers a 63-62 lead. The Argos would pull within two with less than a minute to play but would not get any closer as the Diggers hit 5-of-8 free throws down the stretch.

Hattie Thatcher had 11 assists in the game. The senior point guard also had four rebounds and a pair of steals.

Rachel Farris shot 5 for 9 from the field finishing with 10 points and four rebounds.

Martha Dembek had 12 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Kourtney Coverdell also hit double-digits with 10 points.

Nneka Nnadi led the Argos with 16 points hitting 6 of 8 from the field and 1 of 1 from beyond the arc.

Montana Tech continues Frontier Conference action at the end of the month when they travel to Lewis-Clark State.
