BUTTE, Mont. – Montana Tech held on in the final minute for the upset victory over No. 11 Montana State Northern 54-49.
The Skylights came within a field goal with less than a minute to go in the game. Montana Tech held firm with a two-pointer from
Rachel Farris and four clutch free throws from
Hattie Thatcher.
Monica Landdeck was the critical piece in the fourth quarter scoring 10 of her game high 17 points. The junior came off the bench and shot 7 for 12 in the game and made both of her two three pointers in the final frame.
After shooting 2 of 13 and only scoring five points in the first quarter, the Orediggers shot 37.7 percent in the game and went 4 for 7 from beyond the arc.
Kortney Coverdell had 15 points going 6 for 11 from the field and 2 for 2 from three point range.
The Orediggers outrebounded the Skylight 42-36. Thatcher grabbed nine boards and
Rachel Farris had eight.
Natale Faupel led the Skylights with 16 points but shot just 2 for 11 from the field. The Butte native went 12 for 13 from the free throw line.
Montana Tech hits the road next week for a pair of game. The Orediggers are at Rocky Mountain College next Thursday and Montana Western on Saturday.
