BUTTE- Montana Tech's comeback attempt fell short in overtime against College of Idaho as the Diggers fell 23-20 on Saturday afternoon.
The Diggers scored on a 20-yard
Jed Fike rush with 35 second left in regulation to pull even with the Yotes after trailing by a touchdown for most of the game. Fike's touchdown run was his longest of the day, but the junior rusher out of Harrison, Mont. gained 144 yards on 33 carries.
Montana Tech's day was highlighted by
Dion Williams' six catch, 68 yard performance. The senior wideout tied the career receiving touchdown record held by Oredigger Hall of Famer Davis Almanza after hauling in a 31-yard touchdown in the second quarter, the 20th of Williams career. Williams also set a new Montana Tech career reception record hauling in six passes and breaking Almanza's previous record of 168 receptions.
The Orediggers gained 383 yards of offense with 239 of those coming on the ground but surrendered 409 yards of offense to College of Idaho.Â
The Diggers were led defensively by
Carter Myers who had 10 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a sack.
Justin May added eight tackles and a pass breakup while
Tucker Rauthe had seven tackles and two pass breakups.
Montana Tech (3-3) takes on Eastern Oregon University next Saturday in La Grande, Oregon at 2 P.M. Mountain Standard Time.
