LA GRANDE, Oregon – No. 19 Eastern Oregon downed Montana Tech 35-17 bringing the two-game series to even Saturday afternoon.
The Orediggers struck first turning a Carter Meyers interception into a field goal in the first quarter. The interception was the first of two for Meyers who returned a second half pick into an 83-yard return for a touchdown.
The Mountaineers struck back with two touchdowns in the first half. Kai Quinn threw both scores in the second quarter to help the Mountaineers take a 14-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Eastern Oregon scored three more unanswered touchdowns to lead 35-3 at the beginning of the fourth.
Including Meyers, pick-six, the Orediggers scored the final two touchdowns of the day.
Dion Williams broke the school record for career touchdown receptions and career receiving yards with a 44-yard touchdown reception from
Jet Campbell for the final score of the game.
Williams finished the game with 10 catches for 127 yards.
Campbell finished the day completing 22 of 40 passes for 244 yards and an interception. He was sacked seven times.
Jed Fike rushed 24 times for 96 yards.
Nioki Harmer led the Diggers with 10 total tackles with nine solo stops. Harmer also broke up two passes.
Quinn completed 22 of 40 for 295 yards and four touchdowns. Victor Dias caught two passes for a team-high 84 yards and rushed 14 times 82 yards and two total touchdowns.
Montana Tech (3-4) drops their third straight game. The Orediggers return home next weekend when they host Southern Oregon.
