DILLON, Mont. – No. 22 Montana Western (4-1) comes from behind in the second half for a 32-19 victory over No. 20 Montana Tech (3-2).
Orediggers scored first on a
Tyler Padilla 31-yard field goal.
Jed Fike added a touchdown with a two-yard reception. Fike finished the first half with 83 yards rushing and four yards receiving as the Orediggers took a 10-0 lead.
Western quarterback Jon Jund threw three first half interceptions helping Tech keep Western from gaining any offensive momentum.
Tech special teams blocked a Western field goal attempt at the end of the half keeping the Bulldogs scoreless before halftime.
The Oredigger special teams continued to make plays scoring on a blocked PAT and a blocked punt in the third quarter. Tech led Western 19-6 in the third.
Western scored three unanswered touchdowns. Jund threw two touchdown passes and Kyler Prante ran in one score to bring the Bulldogs ahead 26-19.
Western put the game out of reach when Riley Martello intercepted
Cole Hauptman for the final score of the game.
Fike finished with 143 yards on the ground.
The Orediggers struggled throwing the ball with only 94 yards passing on the day.
Tanner Kump completed 14 of 25 passes for 90 yards and an interception.
Jet Campbell was 2 for 6
and
Cole Hauptman was 1 for 7 and an interception.
Jacob Clarke led the Digger defense with 10 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.
Connor Wines had 7 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss and a forced fumble.
Justin Maye had 2 of the Oredigger three interceptions. Damaree Morris had the other Tech pick.
Jund went 17 for 42 for 305 yards and three interceptions. Walter McKitrick caught 6 passes for 163 yards.
Montana Tech returns home next weekend for Homecoming. The Orediggers host College of Idaho for their second meeting of the season.
