Box Score BUTTE- No. 24 Montana Tech put on show for the 2018 Oredigger Hall of Fame Inductees defeating MSU-Northern handily, 54-9 on Bob Green Field.
The Diggers (3-1) controlled the game from the start jumping ahead 24-0 at the half and leading 38-0 at the end of the third quarter. Montana Tech racked up 588 yards of offense and limited MSU-Northern to just 258 yards in the Hall of Fame Game victory.
Quarterback
Cole Hauptman was 16-for-27 for 207 yards and three touchdowns in his first collegiate start. Hauptman also rushed for 67 yards and a score on eight carries.
Running back
Jed Fike rushed for 127 yards on 19 carries and scored on a 24 yard rush in the second half.
The Diggers had nine different players catch a pass.
Trevor Hoffman caught five passes for 72 yards and a touchdown,
Dion Williams had a team-high six grabs for 57 yards and a score, and
Quade McQueary scored on a nine-yard reception.
Grant Kingston and
Tyler Folkes each rushed for a score. Kingston scored on a 70-yard rush and Folkes scored on a 59-yard rush in the fourth quarter.
The Diggers were led defensively by
Jacob Clarke who had nine tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss and
Connor Wines who registered eight tackles and 1.5 sacks. The Digger defense had 11 pass breakups and two interceptions in the game. Clarke and
Jory Breen each recorded a pick in the winning effort.
Montana Tech improves to 3-1 in the Frontier Conference and has an off week next week. The Diggers get back in action on October 6th against Montana Western in Dillon.
