Oredigger Defense Smothers Southern Oregon 28-14

ASHLAND, Oregon – Turnovers and a stout defensive performance lead the Montana Tech Orediggers over Southern Oregon 28-14 Saturday.

The Raiders went 0-for-3 inside the red zone and the Orediggers took the ball away three times in the fourth quarter. Linebacker Ike Schweikert knocked the ball loose from quarterback Trent Banner and the ball was recovered by Arthur Flynn. Justin May and Tucker Rauthe each picked off a Banner pass.

The Oredigger rushing attack continued to shine finishing with 205 yards on the ground. Blake Counts carried the ball 22 times for 96 yards and Tyler Folkes had 10 attempts for 89 yards. Folkes had a pair of scores including a 2-yard run in the first quarter and a 57-yard dash in the third.

Jet Campbell connected with Trevor Hoffman for two scores. Hoffman caught a 38-yard score near the end of the second quarter and a 28-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Campbell went 10-for-20 finishing with 157 yards and two touchdowns.

Carter Myers led the defense with 9 tackles and 3 tackles for a loss. The senior linebacker had 1.5 sacks on the day and broke up two passes.

Schweikert had 8 tackles and a sack in addition to his forced fumble.

Jacob Clarke grabbed a tipped ball in the second quarter for the third interception of the game.

The Orediggers limited Southern to just 57 rushing yards and 4-for-16 on third down conversions.

Banner completed just 18-of-39 passing attempts.

Jordan Suell caught both of the Raiders touchdowns and finished with 8 receptions for 115 yards.

Montana Tech improves to 6-2 with the victory and travels to Helena next Saturday to take on the Fighting Saints at Nelson Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
