CHANDLER, Ariz.- Montana Tech's hot shooting matched the weather as the Oredigger women's basketball team defeated San Diego Christian 72-45 on Wednesday night at the Phoenix Frontier Classic.
The Orediggers (10-2) shot 48.3% from the floor and featured four double digit scorers in the victory over the Hawks. Montana Tech's hot hand didn't start until the second half even though they had built themselves a 33-26 advantage at the intermission. Montana Tech opened up the contest shooting 60% from the floor before faltering in the second quarter and shooting just 21.4%. The Oredigger ralllied back however as they shot 55% over the course of the game's final 20 minutes.
Mollie Peoples led all scorers with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting from downtown while
Tavia Rooney registered her sixth double-double scoring 17 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.Rooney finished the contest 8-for-9 from the floor.
Mesa Williams and
Kaylee Zard each chipped in 10 points while
Dani Urick scored 9 points.
Hailey Crawford added 4 points and
Brooke Heggie had 2.
The Orediggers held San Diego Christian to 26.2% shooting and a 4-for-27 effort from three. Erica McCarter scored 13 points to lead the Hawks.
Montana Tech takes on Northern New Mexico on Thursday at 8 p.m. MST.
