SIOUX CITY, Iowa- What happened on Wednesday night will be something the Montana Tech volleyball team won't ever forget as the Orediggers upset the top seed in Pool C and No. 3 team in the nation in five sets, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 15-11.
For the Orediggers, the monumental victory came in a back-and-forth match as Montana Tech  had to rally back from dropping the first set to the Wildcats. It was on the backs of junior outside hitter
Karina Mickelson and company that  the Orediggers rallied back. Mickelson finished the match with a career-high 24 kills including the winning point of the match. Mickelson hit for an impressive .345 clip against Indiana Wesleyan while three of her teammates finished in double figures for kills as well.
Gena McMillan who had 15 kills,
Maureen Jessop who tallied 14 kills, and
Heather Thompson who finished with 13 put-aways also had impressive and important nights in the upset win.Â
For the OrediggersÂ
McKenna Kaelber's 69 assist performance places her third all-time in the record books where she is tied with Stephanie Anderson who set the mark in 1999.
Sabrina Hopcrofts 31 dig performance also proved pivotal for Montana Tech. The Orediggers finished the match hitting for a .263 clip while IWU, who had only lost once coming into the NAIA National Championships, hit for a .188 percentage.Â
The win over the No. 3 squad from Indiana Wesleyan also marked an important benchmark for coach
Brian Solomon who notched his 250th career coaching victory. Â
The Orediggers (26-8) play University of Saint Mary (Neb.) on Thursday night at 7 p.m. MST to finish pool play.Â
