Oredigger Women's Basketball Rolls Past Warriors

BUTTE, Mont.- The Montana Tech women's basketball team earned their first Frontier Conference victory in a big way on Saturday night defeating Lewis-Clark State, 83-59, at Kelvin Sampson Court.

The Orediggers (9-2, 1-1 Conf.) held a 10 point advantage of the Warriors at the halftime break, 41-31. Montana Tech held the Warriors to just 27.6% shooting from the floor and a 3-for-25 effort from downtown. On the opposite end of the shooting spectrum was Montana Tech who shot 48.1% from the floor and knocked down seven triples in the victory.

"Tonight was a great time win with five players scoring in double figures," said coach Carly Sanon. "I'm very proud of how we competed tonight."

In the back and forth contest, Montana Tech and Lewis-Clark State were tied at 55-55 midway through the fourth quarter when the Diggers pulled away on a 28-4 run. Leading the run was Mesa Williams who scored 25 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Williams was an impressive 5-for-8 from three in game. Along with Williams, the Orediggers had four double digit scorers in Kaylee Zard who had 17 points, Dani Urick who added 12, and Tavia Rooney who notched 10 markers. Rooney grabbed 15 rebounds to tally her fifth double double of the season.

The 24 point victory over the Warriors is the largest margin for the Orediggers since they defeated L-C State 83-57 in 2016.

Lewis-Clark State was led in scoring by Peyton Souvenir who scored 16 points. The Warriors dropped to 1-1 in conference play and 6-2 on the season.

Montana Tech will take a trip to sunny Arizona for their next games at the Cactus Classic hosted in Phoenix. The Orediggers play San Diego Christian on Wednesday Dec. 18th.
