BUTTE, Mont. – No. 15 College of Idaho showed their strength and speed ruining Montana Tech's opening Copper Game at Alumni Coliseum 28-14.
The Orediggers (0-1) defense grinded out the first half giving up just seven points in the before halftime, but missed out scoring trailing 7-0.
The Yotes were able to put back-to-back touchdown on the board thanks to Darius-James Peterson in the second half. The senior quarterback finished with 163 yards passing on 10-of-17 passing.
Jet Campbell completed a 21-yard pass with an acrobatic catch by
Trevor Hoffman in the fourth to get the Orediggers on the board 21-7. Hoffman finished with 149 yards receiving and 11 catches.
Jed Fike carried the ball 21 times for 97 yards and scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter for the final score of the game.
Tightend
Nate Sander had three catches for 35 yards.
Running back Nick Calzaretta scored the final touchdown for the Yotes on a 61-yard scramble and finished with 240 yards on 25 carries.
Campbell completed 17 passes on 28 attempts and finished with 217 yards.
The Oredigger defense had two takeaways with
Ike Schweikert and
Jacob Clarke picking up a pair of fumbles.
Carter Myers led the team with 12 total tackles and Schweikert added eight.
Montana Tech travels to La Grande, Oregon next weekend to face the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers.
