Orediggers Hang On To Defeat Dawgs

DILLON, Mont.- Montana Tech made the right plays down the stretch to win a barnburner of a game against Montana Western on Saturday night at Straugh Gymnasium, 63-58.

The win is the first road victory for the Orediggers over Western since the 2007-08 season and the program's first two game weekend sweep since January of 2015.

The Orediggers (10-5, 2-2 Conf.) lead traded runs with the Bulldogs to open up the contests before Montana Tech utilized an 8-0 run midway through the first half lead the Bulldogs 19-12. Montana Tech led the Dawgs 30-20 at the intermission after shooting just 33%.

"Rivalry games are always tough," said Montana Tech head coach Adam Hiatt. "Both teams played extremely hard and fought to the final buzzer."

A trio of double-digit scorers led Montana Tech to the hard fought victory with Sindou Diallo leading the charge scoring 23 points. Dylan Pannabecker and Taylor England both scored 12 points and combined to collect 17 rebounds for the Orediggers.

Derrius Collins came off the bench to scored five points, Troy Owens Jr. scored four, Christian Jones added three, and Drew Huse and Cody Baumstarck scored two apiece.

James Jones was the only Bulldog in double figures scoring 19 points.

The Diggers shot 35.5% from the floor while Western shot 44.4% from the field. 34 of Montana Tech's point came from inside the paint and another 17 markers at the foul line.

"We are happy that we are able to persevere and make enough defensive plays late to hold on," added Hiatt.

The Orediggers return to action on Thursday, January 16th when they play host to University of Providence at Kelvin Sampson Court.
