BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Tech cross country teams travel to Havre for the Frontier Conference Championships this Friday at the Prairie Farms Golf Course.
The Orediggers opened the season at Prairie Farms Golf Course for the Frontier Conference Preview Meet on September 11
th. Both teams finished in third place at the meet.
"This is the meet we have been focused on since starting to train all the way back in June," said head coach
Zach Kughn. "Everything we've done up to this point is not nearly as important as what happens on Friday."
Senior
Becca Richtman has won every conference meet this season. Freshman
Henry Kakalecik won the men's conference field at the Montana Western Open on October 23
rd in Dillon.
"Henry and Becca were the top runners in the conference at the last meet which mean's the target is on their back. Having that pressure can be nerve wracking but it's more exciting than anything. They will be in contention for an individual title but more importantly they are just trying to place as high as possible to help their teams."
The Montana Tech men's team is currently ranked No. 20 in the most recent NAIA Top 25 Poll. The Orediggers finished second at the Montana Western Open.
"Though we won't know for sure until later in the spring who qualifies for nationals, it's hard for that not to be on our minds, especially on the men's side."
The men's race starts at noon with the women following at 1 p.m.
