BUTTE, Mont. – Lewis-Clark State Hannah Burland hit a two-pointer under the basket as time expired to break the tie and hold off Montana Tech 62-60.
Mesa Williams, who crossed the 1,000 point mark for her career in the first quarter, was fouled with two seconds left in the fourth quarter as the Orediggers trailed 57-55. Williams made both shots from the charity stripe to push the game into overtime.
The game saw six ties with neither team able to run away. The Warrior held a slim lead at halftime 28-26.
The Orediggers shot 32.4% from the field and 20.8% from beyond the arc.
Freshman forward
Tavia Rooney led the Orediggers with 20 points and her second highest rebound total of the season with 19. The Townsend, Montana native helped the Orediggers lead the game in rebounds 49-44. Rooney shot 9-of-19 from the floor.
Rooney broke the single-season record for most rebounds sitting at 304 on the season. Connie Froke held the previous mark with 292 set in 1984.
Williams and
Dani Urick chipped in 12 points each.
Peyton Souvenir led the Warriors with 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting. Hannah Burland added 14 points from the bench going 6-of-7 from the field and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.
The Warriors shot 41.2% in the second half and finished with 37.5% from the field.
Montana Tech finishes the regular season on the road next week. The Orediggers head to Billing's next Thursday to face the Rocky Mountain Battlin' Bears.
