BUTTE, Mont. – Montana Tech women's basketball earned their first victory against a ranked opponent this year upsetting No. 22 Bushnell 84-73.
The Orediggers (3-2) win their third straight game.
The Orediggers jumped out early leading 8-2 after the first six minutes of the game. The Beacons cut the lead to 17-15 after the first quarter. The game was tied 37 all going into the locker room at halftime.
Tech broke away at the start of the fourth quarter on a 10-2 run. Bushnell came within three points with 4:34 to play, but the Orediggers held on through the finish.
The Orediggers shot 55.9 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from three point range. Tech outrebounded the Beacons 38-28.
Tavia Rooney had her second double-double in row finishing with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Rooney also had five assists and five blocks.
Brooke Heggie led the Orediggers in scoring with 18 points. Heggie hit 8 of 11 from the field and 2 fo2 from the free throw line.
Mollie Peoples had 13 points and five rebounds. Peoples shot 3 of 7 from long.
Dani Urick finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Aspen Slifka led Bushnell with 16 points and eight rebounds. Bella Pedrojetti had 14 and Morgan McKinney added 11.
Montana Tech heads to Lewiston, Idaho for a pair of games against Lewis-Clark State and Eastern Oregon this weekend.
