BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Tech Oredigger women's basketball team surged in the second half to take down William Jessup 68-56.
The Orediggers (2-2) win their second straight and both games at the Montana Tech Tip Off Classic.
Tech trailed 39-32 at halftime. After coming out of the locker room at the break, the Orediggers opened the third quarter with an 11-0 run and finished the quarter 18-7. Tech didn't let off the gas in the second half.
The Orediggers finished shooting 40.4 percent from the field and hit 8 of 16 from three point.
After shooting 48.3 percent from the field in the first half, the Warriors shot 16.7 percent in the third quarter and 23.5 percent in the fourth. The Warriors finished shooting 34.5 percent from the field.
Tech dominated the boards with a 40-25 rebound margin.
Tavia Rooney had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Rooney also had five blocks and four assists.
Brooke Heggie shot 7 of 8 from the field finishing with 14 points. Heggie had four rebounds and four assists.
Dani Urick had 11 points, nine rebounds, and 3 assists.
Mollie Peoples had 12 points shooting 4 for 6 from three point range. She also had four rebounds.
Monica Valenzuela led the Warriors with 19 points and eight rebounds.
JoeLynn Stirton had 18 points.
Montana Tech is at the Twin Rivers Physical Therapy Classic in Lewiston, Idaho next weekend.
