The Montana Tech volleyball team opens their home conference schedule Friday night against the No. 10 University of Providence Argos.
Providence (13-2) is out to a hot start on the 2021 season after being voted to finish first in the Frontier Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. Providence went 4-0 at last weekends Frontier Conference Preview Tournament in Havre. The Argos are averaging 13.3 kills per set and a team hitting percentage of .209. Sophomore outside hitter Jenna Thorne leads the attack averaging 3.4 kills per set and a .227 hitting percentage. Freshman middle Sadie Lott is averaging 3.3 kills and a team leading .292 hitting percentage. Junior setter Cydney Finberg-Roberts is averaging 10.9 assists per game.
Montana Tech (12-3) is coming off a 3-1 weekend at the Frontier Conference Preview Tournament. The Orediggers picked up wins over Rocky Mountain, Montana Western, and Carroll College. MSU-Northern took a match from the Orediggers winning the
final three sets. All matches at the tournament were considered non-conference. Â
Middle
Taylor Henley led the Orediggers last weekend in kills notching 40 on the weekend. Henley is averaging 2.3 kills per set with a .357 hitting percentage on the season.
Outside hitters
Karina Mickelson and
Maureen Jessop lead the attack for the Orediggers. Mickelson, in her senior season, is averaging 2.73 kills per set with a .212 hitting percentage. Jessop, a junior, is averaging 2.63 kills per set and a .234 hitting percentage. Â
Setter
McKenna Kaelber has 450 assists on the season so far and is averaging 9.6 assists per set.
Olivia Muir is a new transfer to the team coming from Casper Community College. Muir is still a freshman in coming off of the COVID year. Muir is averaging 2.27 kills per set and a .201 hitting percentage.
Sarah Hopcroft leads the team in digs with 232 on the season. The sophomore libero is averaging 4.82 digs per set.
