BUTTE, Mont. -- Hadley Humphreys had a double-double to lead Montana Tech's women's basketball team to an 89-79 victory over 14th-ranked Mayville State Thursday evening on Kelvin Sampson Court.
Humphreys dumped in 32 points, tied for fourth-most in a single game in program history, to go with a team-high 11 rebounds. The junior from Blackfoot, Idaho scored nearly a third of her points from the free-throw line, going 10-for-13 at the stripe.
Montana Tech (4-1) got ahead early on a
Brooklynn Hankwitz 3, but the Orediggers faced a deficit that grew to seven midway through the first period.
Aubrie Rademacher's layup with 3:39 to go in the quarter sparked a 9-2 Oredigger run, though, and the teams were tied at 18 after 10 minutes of play.
Tech dominated the second. Humphreys tallied eight points in the quarter alone, and Rademacher scored five and dished out three assists as the home team went into halftime with a 44-32 lead.
The Diggers continued to control the game in the third, and Humphreys' free throw at the 3:00 mark pushed the lead to 20 before Mayville State began to climb back into the game. The Comets cut the advantage to 68-54 by third quarter's end, and the visitors' shooting ignited in the fourth.
MSU began the final stanza on a 21-8 run and cut the lead to 76-75 on Mackenzie Hughes' 3-pointer with 5:12 to go. A Humphreys free throw and
Halle Haber jumper gave the Orediggers some breathing room on their next two possessions, and Tech finished the game on a 10-2 run to close out its fourth-straight win.
Rademacher had 19 points, nine boards, and two blocks for Montana Tech.
Liv Wangerin chipped in 13 points and four assists, and Haber scored 12 points off the bench. Hughes led the Comets with 23 points.
Thursday's was the first-ever meeting between the two programs though Mayville State is slated to join Tech in the Frontier Conference in the 2025-26 academic year. It was also Montana Tech's first win over a ranked opponent since the Orediggers beat Rocky Mountain, then No. 12, on January 6.
Montana Tech will put its four-game win streak on the line next Saturday, Nov. 23 at home against Northwest. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
