Merced, Calif. -- Michael Ure scored a game-high 10 points,
Hayden Diekhans totaled nine points and 12 rebounds, and the No. 7-ranked Montana Tech men's basketball team stayed unbeaten Wednesday night with a 42-30 road win over UC Merced.
The 30 points the Orediggers allowed were the fewest since a 109-24 win over Portland Bible in October 2022. Both teams played lockdown defense in the game, holding each other to under 30 percent shooting from the field.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, and neither team led by more than two possessions at any point. The Bobcats took a 19-17 lead into the break.
Montana Tech (7-0) began the second half with a 7-0 run, a barrage kicked off by a Diekhans dunk that tied the game. Tech never trailed again. The Orediggers iced the game at the free-throw line, shooting 10-for-12 in the second half to maintain the lead.
Ifeanyi Okeke chipped in nine points and seven boards for the Diggers.
Montana Tech will continue its California roadtrip with a Friday contest at Pacific Union. Tip is set for 1 p.m. Mountain time.
