DILLON, Mont. -- Four Montana Tech women's basketball players scored in double figures Friday evening as the Orediggers toppled previously undefeated Southeastern, 68-59, inside Montana Western's Straugh Gymnasium.
The Fire had been 4-0 and received votes in the preseason NAIA top 25.
Hadley Humphreys and
Aubrie Rademacher each scored 15 points for Montana Tech (3-1), while
Brooklynn Hankwitz sank four 3s on her way to a 14-point night.
Macy Mayer tallied Tech's first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Orediggers fell behind 4-3 in the game's early going, but Rademacher's 3-pointer at the 8:01 mark in the first put Montana Tech ahead for good. Southeastern kept the deficit close for most of the first half, cutting it to a single point on multiple occasions, but Tech had the answer every time.
Halle Haber's jumper kicked off a 7-0 second-quarter run that gave the Diggers some breathing room, and Tech took a 31-22 lead into intermission.
A few hot hands helped Montana Tech hang onto the lead after the break. Hankwitz hit a pair of 3s in the third to keep the Fire at bay, and Humphreys scored seven of her 15 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Liv Wangerin helped the Oredigger system run despite just four points. The junior made five assists and snagged four rebounds. Humphreys added nine rebounds for Tech, and Rademacher and Mayer clipped three steals apiece.
Montana Tech will put its three-game win streak on the line Thursday at home against future Frontier Conference member Mayville State. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
