CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Montana Tech's women's basketball team opened its stay at the Coyote Classic with a hard-fought 51-40 loss at the hands of No. 3-ranked Campbellsville Wednesday afternoon.

Kia Wasson scored 14 points for Montana Tech (6-4), while Hadley Humphreys had 11 points and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.

The Orediggers started out toe-to-toe with the third-ranked team in the land. Wasson knocked down a 3-pointer for the game's opening basket, but Campbellsville responded with a 7-0 run. The Diggers had the answer in the form of a Humphreys lay-in followed by a pair of Wasson 3s, ripping off an 8-0 run of its own late in the first. Tech led 11-8 at the first break.

The Tigers (10-0) fought back to tie the game at 17-all in the second and, despite shooting just 6-for-32 from the field in the first half, took an 18-17 lead into halftime. (Tech shot just 25 percent.)

After halftime, the story was different. Both teams picked up pace in the third, but Campbellsville's Lauren Lee set it. The guard scored eight of her game-high 19 points in the period, helping to send the Tigers into the fourth with a 35-30 lead.

Montana Tech began the fourth with great defense — the Diggers held Campbellsville scoreless for the first 4:45 of the period — and six-straight points, the latter of which came on another Wasson 3 that put Tech ahead, 36-35. Hallie Allen broke the skid for the Tigers with a layup at the 5:15 mark, giving Campbellsville the lead for good. The Tigers finished the game with a 9-0 run over the last 3:06 to seal the win.

Montana Tech also got nine rebounds out of Macy Mayer and three assists apiece from Liv Wangerin and Aubrie Rademacher. Humphreys and Wangerin each blocked a pair of shots.

The Orediggers will take on Loyola New Orleans Thursday at 4 p.m. as the Coyote Classic continues at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
