BELLEVUE, Nebraska – Montana Tech Volleyball didn't have to wait long for the opportunity to get back to their winning ways at the Bellevue University Tournament on Friday. After suffering their first loss of the season at the hands of McPherson College earlier in the day, the Orediggers bounced back quick with a sweep of College of Saint Mary (25-16, 25-12, 25-22).
After falling behind 6-3 in the first set, the Orediggers (4-1) stormed back to take a commanding 17-8 lead thanks to a number of attack errors by the Flames (and three kills by freshman
Piper Jette. The nine-point lead would hold as the Orediggers finished the first frame with a 25-16 win.
The Orediggers started the second set the same way they finished the first, jumping out to a 10-3 lead enroute to a 25-12 drubbing of CSM, with a host of Oredigger attackers combining to finish the set with an impressive .400 team hitting percentage.
The Flames would jump out to a quick 7-1 lead in the third set before the Oredigger offense would spring to life, led by
Olivia LaBeau who would finish set three with six kills. Montana Tech would take the third set 25-22, earning them the sweep over the Flames.
LaBeau led all players with 13 kills to go along with three blocks. Fellow middle blocker
Alexis Umland finished with a game-high four blocks, and
Jelena Jablanov chipped in with ten digs.
Rhys Layton coordinated the Oredigger offense by divvying out 32 assists.
College of Saint Mary was led by Grace Werner with seven kills, Azaria Green with three blocks, and Elen Pruett with ten digs.
Montana Tech will cap their weekend play with an 8 AM matchup with Lindsey Wilson College.
