BELLEVUE, Nebraska – Montana Tech Volleyball wrapped up their weekend in Nebraska finishing with a straight set victory over Lindsey Wilson College (26-24, 25-19, 35-33) to finish an impressive 2-1 at the Bellevue University Tournament. The win was their second in just over 14 hours after a quick turnaround to play the 9 AM CST contest.
The first set saw the Orediggers (5-1) and the Blue Raiders (1-2) trade leads throughout most of the frame, until a block by
Kinnidi Willmore gave the sparked a run that would lead to the Orediggers holding a 23-20 lead, putting Lindsey Wilson on the ropes. The lead would hold as Montana Tech would take the first set 26-24.
The second set had both teams trading points once again, until the Orediggers were able to pull ahead 11-8 after scoring three straight points which included a service ace by
Jelena Jablanov. Montana Tech would win the second set 25-19 due in no small part to the stellar play of middles
Olivia LaBeau and
Alexis Umland who combined for ten kills in the set.
The final set would prove to be a marathon effort by both teams. The Blue Raiders jumped out to a commanding 20-13 lead and looked be cruising towards a set three victory before the Oredigger resilience showed strong with an effort that resulted in a six-point run that included three Oredigger kills and two blocks. Lindsey Wilson would fend off the pressure and take a 24-21 lead on a Blue Raider block, positioning them for their first set win in the match. Once again, the Oredigger toughness would show through with three straight points to tie the match 24-24 on a service ace by freshman
Austin Long. The two teams would continue to trade punches and over the next 20 points until back-to-back kills by
Abby Clark would give the Orediggers a 35-33 set win and match sweep.
For the second straight match, LaBeau would lead all attackers with 11 kills followed closely by Clark with ten. Umland would also continue to contribute to the strong middle with five blocks.
Rhys Layton would end with 38 assists and Jablanov would finish with three service aces to go along with nine digs.
Lindsey Wilson was led by Lara Danesi with ten kills and 14 digs, Ola Wyrzykowska with four aces, and Savanah Pippin with six blocks.
