HAVRE -- Jarrett Wilson threw for three touchdowns, leading the No. 7-ranked Montana Tech football team to a 49-7 road victory at MSU-Northern Saturday.
The game was all Orediggers from the opening kickoff. Tech began the ballgame with a nine-play, 65-yard drive capped by Wilson's 29-yard pass to
Levi Torgerson for an early 7-0 lead.
That was the only scoring in the first quarter. Montana Tech (7-0, 2-0 Frontier East) broke it open in the second, though. The Orediggers put up 17 more points before halftime.
Wykece Johnson scored a five-yard touchdown,
Casey Kautzman kicked a 26-yard field goal, and Wilson hit
Nick Michelotti for a 20-yard touchdown pass in the second. Tech took a 24-0 lead into intermission.
Montana Tech put the game away in the third quarter with a pair more TDs, one on a
Nate Milanowski one-yard rush and another on Wilson's 66-yard pass to fullback
Charlie Kirgan. MSU-Northern scored just before quarter's end to break up the shutout.
The Orediggers tacked on a couple more scores — a Kautzman 34-yard field goal and
Isaiah Claunch's 15-yard pass to
Manu Melo — to bring the score to its final standing.
Anthony Okes led the Montana Tech defense with six tackles and 2.5 sacks.
Tyler Kovick,
Jace Thompson, and
River Wasson each made five tackles for the Orediggers, and
Daymon Burns intercepted a Lights pass.
Montana Tech, 7-0 for the first time in program history, will take next weekend off before returning home October 25 to play host to Mayville State. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Bob Green Field.
