DILLON -- Behind 15 points each from
Hayden Diekhans and
Brayden Koch, the No. 11-ranked Montana Tech men's basketball team pulled away for an 84-58 win over Warner Pacific Friday afternoon at the Montana Western Classic.
The game started out closely contested with four ties and three lead changes in the first 5 minutes of play. With the score knotted at 10, Montana Tech (3-0) took control by means of a 10-3 run and never looked back. Tech led 48-25 at halftime.
After the break, the Knights (0-2) began to cut into the lead. WPU started the second on a 9-4 run and trimmed the Montana Tech lead to just 10 at the 8:43 mark. But a layup and a couple of
Camdyn LaRance free throws gave the Orediggers some breathing room, and Tech opened the lead back up in the late going.
Rhett Reynolds scored nine points for the Orediggers, while
Karson Peffer and
Connor Michaud added eight each.
Ethan Venema grabbed a team-high seven rebounds for Montana Tech. Diekhans' led the Orediggers with three assists.
Terrin Dickey led Warner Pacific with a game-high 19 points.
The Orediggers will return home to continue non-conference play next weekend at the Montana Tech Tip Off Classic, taking on Ottawa (Ariz.) Friday night at 7.
