No. 6 men's basketball tops Northwest to stay undefeated

BUTTE -- Brayden Koch scored 19 points, leading four Orediggers in double figures as the No. 6-ranked Montana Tech men's basketball team cruised past Northwest, 90-73, Friday evening in Valley Bank Arena. 

Koch shot 8-for-13 from the field in the win and added three rebounds for Tech. Hayden Diekhans added 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists for the Orediggers, while Camdyn LaRance and Connor Michaud scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. 

Montana Tech (6-0) put the game out of reach early. The Orediggers started the contest on a 29-5 run and extended the lead to 30 by the 5:17 mark in the first half. Tech led 55-30 at halftime behind 13 points from Koch. 

Michaud scored seven of his 10 after the break to help the Orediggers roll to victory. 

Northwest (1-2) did begin to cut into the lead in the late going, trimming the deficit to 13, but Montana Tech made its last eight free throw attempts to ice the victory. 

Logan Stempniak led the Eagles with 16 points and six rebounds. 

The Orediggers will hit the road next week to begin Frontier Conference play next week, beginning with a trip to Mayville State Friday, November 21 at 7 p.m. Central, 6 p.m. Mountain time.
