MAYVILLE, N.D. -- Liv Wangerin,
Brooke Badovinac, and
Kameryn Ketcham all scored in double figures Friday afternoon, leading the No. 21-ranked Montana Tech women's basketball team to a 79-43 blowout win at Mayville State to begin Frontier Conference play.
Wangerin poured in a season-high 19 points to lead the way for the Orediggers, while Badovinac finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Ketcham contributed a career-best 14 points off the bench.
Montana Tech (5-0, 1-0 Frontier Conference) could not have started off hotter. The Orediggers stormed out to a 21-4 lead and never looked back. Tech extended the lead to 29-9 by the end of the first quarter.
After carrying a 41-22 lead into halftime, Tech unleashed another barrage in the third. The Orediggers won the period, 25-9, shooting over 50 percent from 3-point range in the quarter.
Ketcham scored eight of her 14 after halftime to help the Diggers continue to pull away, and the Oredigger defense stole the basketball seven times in the second half to help secure the win.
It was the Orediggers' largest margin of victory in a conference game since Tech bested Providence (then University of Great Falls) by 37 points January 25, 2013.
Montana Tech will look to make it a perfect opening conference weekend Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. Mountain, 5 Central when the Orediggers take on Valley City State.
