BUTTE, Mont. -- Liv Wangerin scored a game-best 20 points,
Hadley Humphreys added 12, and the Montana Tech women's basketball team got back to its winning ways Saturday afternoon with a convincing 83-67 home victory over Frontier Conference rival Montana Western on Kelvin Sampson Court.
Wangerin applied six rebounds, four assists, and a steal to her tally, while Humphreys tacked on seven boards, three steals, and three assists for the Orediggers (14-8, 5-4 Frontier).
Kia Wasson (11 points) and
Halle Haber (10) joined the duo in double-figures.
After a back-and-forth first period, Tech earned some breathing room midway through the second with a 9-0 run sparked by Wasson's transition 3-pointer. The Orediggers carried a 40-28 lead into halftime.
The second half was Wangerin's show. The Montana Tech junior scored 15 of her 20 in the final 20 minutes to help the Diggers extend their lead. Tech got the advantage up to 25 late in the fourth before the Bulldogs (7-14, 2-7) reeled it back in late.
Payton Hagy led the way for Western with 17 points, highlighting five Bulldogs in double-digit scoring.
The Orediggers are 10-2 at home this season. Saturday's win busted a three-game losing streak to Western.
Montana Tech's women's basketball team will start a four-game conference road trip Thursday with a voyage to Great Falls and No. 25 Providence. Tip is scheduled for 5 p.m.
