MISSOULA, Mont. -- The Montana Tech women's and men's track & field teams enjoyed another record-breaking weekend at the Montana Open Friday and Saturday in their final tune-up before the Frontier Conference championships.

Junior Alyssa Jany highlighted Saturday's competition with a victory in the women's 3,000-meter Steeplechase, which counted as the Frontier Conference's championship in the event. Jany finished the race in 11:28.40, 12 seconds ahead of runner-up Grace Timm from Rocky Mountain. The run improved Jany's hold on the No. 3 all-time spot in Montana Tech history.

Junior Ben Zerr led the way for the Oredigger men with a fifth-place finish (9:46.24).

A handful of Montana Tech records went down at the meet as well. Senior Jenna Jordan broke her own program record in the women's javelin with an NAIA 'A' qualifying standard throw of 43.86m. That mark sits fifth on the national leaderboard this season. She was third in the event.

Senior Jadyn Vermillion also put up an 'A' cut and program record, hers coming in the women's long jump with a winning leap of 6.11m.

Freshman Ava Epler set new Tech top marks in the women's shot put (12.53m) and hammer throw (42.54m).

On the men's side, the 4x100m relay of Dom Maricelli, Will Wagner, Caden Caywood, and Matthew Moreni won the race in a program-record 41.26 seconds. Junior Morgan McClernan topped his own program-best time in the 110m hurdles, winning the race in 14.87. McClernan was also second in the 400m hurdles (55.32).

Junior Cade VanVleet continued his incredible season in the throws, winning the discus with a 53.02m heave that was just a hair off his Tech record in the event and also topped the NAIA's 'A' standard. He also had an 'A' qualifying throw in the shot put, placing fifth with a 16.78m toss.

Sophomore Nicolo Lancini accounted for the Diggers' other win on the day, placing first in the triple jump (13.93m).

Both Montana Tech's track & field teams will look to defend their Frontier Conference championships next weekend at the Frontier meet. Action begins with the hammer throws in Great Falls Thursday before the meet begins in earnest Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with the women's javelin at Helena's Vigilante Stadium.
