HELENA, Mont. -- Montana Tech senior
Jadyn Vermillion landed the farthest long jump in Oredigger women's history Saturday.
Tuesday, the Myrtle Creek, Ore. native landed the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference women's field athlete of the week.
Vermillion jumped 6.11 meters to win the long jump in a tough field at the Montana Open. It was the second-longest jump in the NAIA this season and topped the 'A' qualifying standard for the national meet.
Vermillion won't be representing Montana Tech at NAIA nationals this season, however, as she is competing a limited number of competition days in order to preserve a season of eligibility. She was an All-American in the long jump at NAIA indoor nationals this past winter, finishing fifth.
Saturday, she also logged a career-best 200m dash, clocking in ninth in 25.56 seconds.
The conference's weekly honor is the fifth of the 2024-25 season (The prior four came in indoor.) and the sixth of her Oredigger career.
The Montana Tech women's and men's track & field teams will gear up for the postseason now, which begins with the Frontier Conference championships this week. Great Falls will play host to the hammer throw championships Thursday before the meet is run in earnest Sunday and Monday at Vigilante Stadium in Helena.
