HELENA -- Eight Montana Tech women's track & field student-athletes carried All-Frontier Conference designations in the wake of the conference championship meet, the league office announced this week.
The Orediggers raced to a fifth-place finish at the Frontier Conference outdoor championships last weekend in Dickinson, N.D.
Ayla Janzen led the way with all-conference honors in both the heptathlon and 200-meter dash, while
Terryn Chirrick,
Kamryn Comba,
Mya Green,
Alayna Hurd,
Ryleigh Kleinke,
Tyra Opperman, and
Peyton Walker were all-conference honorees in one event.
Chirrick, a freshman from Roberts, helped Montana Tech to a third-place finish in the 4x400m relay, running the second leg in the race.
Comba, a senior from Idaho Falls, Idaho, anchored the Orediggers' third-place 4x400m relay.
Green, a freshman from Scobey, finished runner-up in the 10,000m run en route to her first-career outdoor all-conference honor.
Janzen, a sophomore from Silver Star, finished third in the heptathlon. Her score of 4,528 ranked second all-time at Montana Tech and ranks 12th in the NAIA so far this season. She was also third in the 200m dash.
Hurd, a freshman from Billings, finished third in the 100m dash.
Kleinke, a freshman from Sidney, raced the third leg of Montana Tech's bronze-medal 4x400m relay.
Opperman, a junior from Bozeman, took second in the javelin throw, her 42.39m throw bumping her to 18th on the NAIA season leaderboard.
Walker, a junior from Kalispell, ran the 4x400m relay anchor leg.
The Orediggers finished the championship meet fifth in the 11-team field.
Montana Tech will head to Bozeman on Friday for Montana State's Tom Gage Classic in search of some last-chance national-qualifying marks before heading to Asheville, N.C. later this month for the NAIA outdoor championship meet.
