ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Tyra Opperman threw her way to 14th and teammate
Brityn Stewart placed 25th Friday as the Montana Tech track & field program finished off its stay at the NAIA outdoor national meet at UNC Asheville's Karl Straus Track.
Opperman, a junior from Bozeman, uncorked a 40.07-meter throw on her first attempt of the day, and that wound up being her mark at the meet. It was her third-farthest throw of the season and her best-ever at a national meet; Opperman was 24th at the 2024 NAIA outdoor championships, then tossing a 37.28m heave to earn that place.
Stewart, a freshman from Butte, landed all three of her marks in her nationals debut. Her 38.43m throw on her second attempt was her best.
It marked the fifth-straight season at least one Oredigger student-athlete has represented Montana Tech in the women's javelin at NAIA outdoor nationals.
