WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The 17th-ranked Montana Tech volleyball team swept a pair of matches Saturday to wrap up its stay at the Cumberlands Invitational.
In the opener,
Kinnidi Willmore spiked 13 kills and
Ellie Reinertson collected 16 assists and five aces as the Orediggers (4-2) earned 25-21, 25-15, 25-15 sweep of Carolina University.
After a match-opening ace from
Austin Long and a Willmore kill, Carolina U. ripped off a 5-0 run to lead 5-2 in the early going. The Orediggers battled back to take a 13-12 lead and cruised to win the opening set.
Tech took control of the second set early, ripping off a 9-2 run that included five straight Reinertson aces. The Orediggers never trailed again in the match.
Montana Tech totaled 15 aces in the match, including four apiece from Long and libero
Emmy Green. Green also had a team-best nine digs.
Rhys Layton dished out a match-high 17 assists.
Later, the Orediggers topped Union Commonwealth, 25-18, 25-13, 25-14, for their second victory of the day. Willmore and
Talan Dodson led the team with nine kills. Reinertson also had another big match with 14 assists and four aces. Green added 14 digs.
Tech's offense was scalding the entire match; the Diggers hit .370 with just eight attack errors.
Montana Tech begins Frontier Conference player next week with a Friday-Saturday road trip to North Dakota to face off with league newcomers Mayville State and Valley City State.
