HELENA -- Tyler Avery led the way for the Montana Tech men's golf team last week, earning medalist honors at the Carroll College Classic.
Tuesday, he was named the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference men's golfer of the week for his effort.
Avery, a junior from Kalispell, shot 12-under par through three rounds at Bill Roberts Golf Course to win his second-career tournament. He opened the week with rounds of 4-under 68 and 5-under 67 last Monday on the 6,641-yard course in Helena. Avery followed that with a 3-under 69 in Tuesday's final round, making birdie on two of his final four holes to secure the one-shot win.
He led the Orediggers to a third-place team finish at the second and final Frontier Conference meet of the fall season, finishing just one stroke behind defending conference champion Rocky Mountain and 15 behind team champion Bellevue.
Montana Tech's team score of 21-under-par 843 set a new program record for a 54-hole tournament relative to par, and Avery's three-round total of 12-under was also a new Oredigger record relative to par. Four of Avery's nine rounds so far this season have broken par.
The athlete of the week award is the third of Avery's career. He claimed the honor on April 7 after finishing sixth at the Columbia Basin Invitational in Richland, Wash., and also October 23, 2023 after winning the Yellowjacket Fall Invite in Billings.
He is the first Oredigger men's golfer to win three career Frontier weekly honors since Sean Ramsbacher, who did so from 2019-2021.
