HELENA -- Light the V!

Montana Tech's Tyler Avery wrapped up his stay at Bill Roberts Golf Course with a 3-under-par 69 Tuesday to win the Carroll College Classic. His tournament score of 12-under-par 204 established a new program record for tournament score relative-to-par and ranks fourth on the Orediggers' 54-hole total score leaderboard.

Avery led the Oredigger men to another record-breaking performance — Tech's team score of 21-under 843 topped the previous best 54-hole team score relative to par.

It marked the first time Montana Tech's men's golf program had a medalist since Avery's win at MSU-Billings' Yellowjacket Invite in 2023.

Avery, a junior from Kalispell, shot 67 and 68 in Monday's opening rounds to take a three-shot lead into Tuesday's final round. He played well on the opening holes, but Rocky Mountain's Braxton McDonald birdied seven of his first nine holes to overtake Avery on the leaderboard. McDonald led by as many as four strokes during the early going.

Avery found his rhythm again as the round went on and retook the lead on No. 16 with a birdie. He finished out the round with par on No. 17, birdie on the par-5 18th, and par on No. 1 to claim the title by a stroke.

Four players — McDonald and Bellevue's Svante Isaksson, Hayden Delaloye, and Nick Fleming — tied for second at 11-under.

Avery wasn't the only Oredigger to go low over the week. Freshman Hudson Goroski also came in at 3-under on his way to a sixth-place finish at the tournament. Goroski had just one bogey on his final round.

Freshman Chase Choquette also cracked the top 10 with his final-round 74, and junior Christian Lund tallied a 4-over 76 to polish off the Orediggers' team score.
