LAUREL -- The Montana Tech men's golf team played itself to third place two-thirds of the way through the Beartooth Invitational Monday.
The Orediggers posted team rounds of 13-over-par 301 and 5-over 293 to put themselves just two shots out of second, currently occupied by host Rocky Mountain's 'B' team. The Battlin' Bears top squad holds the lead by 31 strokes twice around the 6,851-yard track at Laurel Golf Club.
Joe McGreevey and
Tyler Avery led the way for Montana Tech Monday; the veterans sit in a tie for seventh at 2-over 146. McGreevey shot even-par 72 in the opening round and carded 74 in the second. Avery posted a 76 before shooting Tech's only below-par round of the day, a 70 with five birdies on the card.
Freshman
Hudson Goroski (73-75—148) enters Tuesday tied for 11th,
Carson Hupka (78-76—154) is tied for 25th, and
Chase Choquette (79-76—149) sits tied for 30th.
Christian Lund followed with and 82 and a 74 to sit in a tie for 33rd.
Montana Tech will finish off the tournament Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
