BUTTE -- Liv Wangerin collected a double-double, Halle Haber and Hadley Humpherys joined her in double-figure scoring, and the No. 15-ranked Montana Tech women's basketball team outlasted Providence, 60-57, Friday afternoon to advance to the Frontier Conference tournament semifinals.
It was the Orediggers' first postseason win since 2022.
Wangerin totaled a game-high 18 points to go with 10 rebounds, the senior's fourth double-double of the season. She was a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line.
Haber scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds, and Humpherys scored 12. Brooke Badovinac racked up five points, five rebounds, four steals, and two assists.
Things didn't start so well for the second-seeded Orediggers (23-4). Tech allowed two easy baskets on Providence's first two possessions and missed a pair of shots from the field, prompting an early timeout.
But the Orediggers responded to lead 17-14 at the first quarter's end and took a 30-23 advantage into halftime.
Seventh-seeded Providence (15-14) chipped at the lead and finally took it in the late going, but Wangerin earned her way to the line twice in the final minute, went 4-for-4, and Tech came out with the win.
Tech's victory added to the program-record single-season win total and was the first postseason win for head coach Jeff Graham's collegiate career.
Montana Tech will take on the winner of Friday's quarterfinal between No. 3-seeded Carroll and sixth-seeded Montana Western. Regular-season champion Dakota State, which also won Friday, will await the winner of MSU-Northern and Rocky Mountain in the other semifinal.
