Montana Tech Athletics

LEWISTON, Idaho -- Hadley Humpherys scored 16 points, Liv Wangerin added 13, but it wasn't enough for the Montana Tech women's basketball team to get past Lewis-Clark State Saturday in the second round of the NAIA national tournament.

The Orediggers fell to the Warriors, 79-67, inside the P1FCU Activity Center.

Fourth-seeded LCSC began the game with a 9-4 run and led for the entierty of the first quarter. Tech, the No. 5 seed in the bracket, scored the first two baskets of the second to capture some momentum. Humpherys' jump shot with 7:27 until halftime put the Orediggers ahead, 22-21, but it wound up being their only lead of the game.

The Warriors (25-8) hit a 3-pointer on their next possession, and Montana Tech never led again. LCSC took a 35-30 lead into the half.

Montana Tech played stifling defense all game long, but the Orediggers shot just 33.3 percent from the field in the second half and were unable to cut into the deficit.

Halle Haber added 10 points for the Orediggers (26-5), and Humpherys had a team-best eight rebounds. Rachel Van Blaricom chipped in nine points off the bench, hitting three 3-pointers.

The season ends as the most successful in Montana Tech women's basketball history. The team won a program-record 26 games and won the Frontier Conference tournament title for the first time since 1983.
