GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Another day, another All-America honor for the Montana Tech women's track & field program.
Jadyn Vermillion leapt to third place in the long jump Friday on Day 2 of the NAIA indoor track & field championships at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center. It was Vermillion's second-career All-America performance for the senior from Myrtle Creek, Ore., in her fourth-career nationals appearance; she was fifth in the long jump at indoor championships last season.
She became the second Oredigger in as many days to earn an All-America nod, joining graduate student
Abby Clark, who was third in the pentathlon on Thursday.
Vermillion cleared 5.87 meters on her first jump of the afternoon, and it wound up being her best. It was the senior's third-longest leap of the season.
Sophomore
Ayla Janzen followed Vermillion in 26th, and Clark finished 30th.
On the men's side, senior
Cade VanVleet came in 12th in the weight throw in record-breaking fashion. VanVleet shattered his own program record in the event with an 18.24m toss, besting his previous record by nearly half a meter.
Senior
Morgan McClernan added a 15th-place finish in the 60m hurdles, crossing the line in 8.23 seconds. That was McClernan's third-best time of the season in the event.
Montana Tech's women sit seventh in the team standings through two days of the meet with 12 team points. The Orediggers will have a chance to add to that total Saturday morning when Clark competes in the high jump at 9:30 a.m. Mountain time.
Two Oredigger men will also be in competition Saturday. Nicoló Lancini will take part in the triple jump, also beginning at 9:30 a.m., and VanVleet will throw in the shot put at 12:30 p.m. VanVleet enters the competition with the best shot put mark in the NAIA.
