BOZEMAN -- Montana Tech's cross country teams began the 2026 season Friday evening with a pair of fourth-place finishes at the MSU Bobcat Twilight, hosted by Montana State.
The Oredigger men held their total to just 115 points, while Tech's women collected 122 points in the race. Both were second among NAIA teams in the meet.
Sophomore Mya Green led the way for the Oredigger women, running to 13th in the 5-kilometer race at 19:09.1. Freshmen Paige Braseth and Bria Ohs came in next, placing 32nd and 36th, respectively, and sophomore Kendra Jensen also logged a top-40 finish for Montana Tech.
Sophomore Hailey Gingery rounded out the Oredigger lineup in 59th.
For Tech's men, redshirt freshman Tyler Inabnit led the way in 24th with a 15:53.5 5k race. Junior Bryon Fanning and senior Derek Schultz also finished in the top 40, coming across in 32nd and 37th, respectively.
Sophomore Layne Niemeyer and freshman Tavin Hurd capped off the Oredigger lineup, taking 41st and 42nd. Seven other Montana Tech men crossed the line in the top 65.
The Orediggers will take a break next weekend before returning to the course Friday, September 18 at the Montana Invite in Missoula.
