HELENA -- In the wake of a terrific debut weekend for the Montana Tech volleyball team, Orediggers junior Halle Moomaw laid claim to the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference attacker of the week honor, the conference office announced Monday. 

Moomaw, a middle hitter from Stewardson, Ill., hit .373 with 51 kills to lead the Orediggers offense in a 2-1 weekend at Olivet Nazarene's Tigers Kickoff Invite. She added 12 blocks and three digs to her stat line as well. 

A transfer from Heartland Community College in Normal, Ill., Moomaw started off her Montana Tech career with a bang. She put down 13 kills to go with seven blocks in the Orediggers' five-set, season-opening loss to Olivet Nazarene on Friday. 

On Saturday, she collected 18 kills and two blocks in a five-set victory over Mount Marty and then led Tech to another five-set win with 20 kills and three blocks against Spring Arbor. She hit .432 in that last match. 

Moomaw wasn't the only Oredigger to appear on the first Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference volleyball athletes of the week honor roll. Senior Rhys Layton joined her as the setter of the week, while Providence's Cabry Badley took the defensive weekly award. 

Moomaw, Layton, and the Orediggers will be back in action this week in the Big Sky Volleyball Challenge at the Butte Civic Center. Montana Tech takes on Indiana University East Thursday at noon in the first of three matches this week.
