HELENA -- Montana Tech libero Brooklynn Hayes landed the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference volleyball defensive player of the week award, the league office announced Monday. 

Hayes, a junior from Tumwater, Wash., totaled 65 digs to help the 24th-ranked Orediggers to a 1-1 record on last week's roadtrip. 

She began the week with 33 digs and two assists as Montana Tech dropped a five-set nailbiter to No. 16 Bellevue. Hayes followed that up with 32 digs, four assists, and three aces in Saturday's four-set victory at Dakota State. She played both matches without a reception error in 32 opportunities. 

Monday's honor was the first weekly award of Hayes' career but the seventh athlete of the week award this season for the Oredigger volleyball program. 

Montana Tech sports an 11-2 record (6-1 in Frontier Conference play) headed into this week's homestand. Tech will play host to No. 8 Providence Friday before welcoming MSU-Northern to town Saturday afternoon.
