Tech Women Prevail Over Rocky

Box Score

BILLINGS — Montana Tech won its regular-season finale in women's basketball Saturday night, topping Rocky Mountain in a Frontier Conference contest in the Fortin Center.

“We finally won a game,” Oredigger head coach Kerie DePell said after the team snapped its losing streak. “It was pretty awesome.”

The Orediggers received double-figure scoring performances from four different while posting the victory.

Bryn Hasquet led the way with 15 points, Brianne McClafferty and Kelsey DeWit tallied 14 apiece, and Dannii Devenny scored 12.

“We played great,” DePell said. “We did everything that we had to do — play great defense, hold them to 50, have four double-digit scorers, make our free throws, everything they were asked to do to win here.”

The Orediggers took a 27-21 lead at halftime.

Bryn Hasquet had great stats — 15 points, eight rebounds (six on defense), two steals, an assist,” DePell said. “Brianne McClafferty and Kelsey DeWit had big baskets down the stretch. Our defense is leaps-and-bounds over what it was the last time we played Rocky. I'm very proud of that.”

Allie Blake and Jillian Stanek led Rocky Mountain with 10 points apiece.

“I had never won a game here, in seven years as a coach — assistant coach or head coach,” DePell said about winning on the Bears' homecourt.

The Orediggers will play at Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho, on Wednesday in the first round of the Frontier Conference playoffs.
