Defending Champs Drop Diggers


Salt Lake City, UT- The Montana Tech Lady Orediggers lost to the third-ranked and defending national champion Westmont Lady Warriors 48-59 in the Westminster College Fall Classic.

Mandy Machinal led the way in the first half for the Lady Diggers scoring 9 points. Machinal would finish the game with 12 points, 5 steals, and 4 rebounds.

Montana Tech would take the lead going into the second half 25-22 while only shooting 23.8% from the field.

The Lady Orediggers would get outscored by Westmont 37-23 in the second half.

Kelsey DeWit was the leading scorer for Montana Tech tallying 14 points to go along with 5 rebounds.

Playing strong for the Lady Diggers off the bench was Sophia Baetz who notched 7 points in only 11 minutes of play.

Montana Tech finished the game shooting 31.7% from the field, and only 30% from the three point line.

Leading the way for the Lady Warriors was Esther Lee who had 27 points and was 7-16 from three point land. 

The Lady Diggers drop to 1-1 on the season and take on The College of Idaho tomorrow at 2 p.m. MST.
