DILLON – An exciting finish ends in disappointment for the Lady Diggers against the Bulldogs Thursday night. Last second plays by Western held of Tech 60-62.
Montana Tech's (16-11, 9-6) three game winning streak comes to an end.
Western (14-15, 6-9) gets a needed win for a spot in the Frontier Conference Tournament.
The Lady Diggers trailed by as many as 10 in the first half before working back into the game finishing 28-24 at the break.
In the second half, Tech took the lead 46-44 on a
Mandy Machinal fast break off a Bulldog turnover.
Tech moved ahead of Western 60-52 when
Laini Kalumbi drove the ball down the court for a layup with 44 seconds on the clock.
Western would bring the ball down court and Roxanne Thurman would hit for two and the foul with 16 seconds left. Thurman missed the extra try, but Western would get the rebound and receive the ball after a jump ball call with just 14 ticks on the clock.
Alecia Wilson hit the game winner leaving just two seconds on the clock.
Machinal led the Diggers with 21 points and eight rebounds. She hit 8 of 9 from the free throw line.
Kalumbi had 11 points and 6 rebounds shooting 5 of 7 on the night.
Dannii Devenny had 10 points and three boards.
Wilson led Western with 16 points and seven rebounds in addition to the game winning shot.
Montana Tech is in Salt Lake City to take on Frontier leader No. 3 Westminster on Saturday.
