BUTTE – The Oredigger men's basketball team won their biggest game of the season and handed Rocky Mountain their first conference loss of the season 100-91.
Montana Tech (8-7, 1-3) grabs their first conference win of the season.
Rocky (12-4, 3-1) three-game winning streak comes to an end.
The Orediggers were the hot shooting team early hitting 56.3 percent from the field and knocked down 6 of their 9 three point attempts in the first half. Tech lead by as many as 14 with 10:19 to go in the first frame.
But Rocky battled back outrebounding Tech 17-11 in the first half and had a strong shooting performance as well. The
Bears hit 60 percent from the floor and hit 8 of 15 from long. Rocky took a 54-47 lead into the break.
In the second half, Tech turned on the burners outscoring Rocky 53-37 hitting 50 percent from the field and 4 of 9 from three. The Orediggers shot 19 of 21 from the line and 88 percent in the contest.
Adam Greger tallied 21 points going 9 for 15 from the field and collected six rebounds in the all-around effort.
Bryan Bock shot 9 for 10 from the charity stripe scoring 19 points in the game. He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out seven assists.
Six Orediggers hit double digits. Brandon Rydburg finished with 16 points making all 7 free throw attempts. Transfers
Antonio Snow had 15 points;
Travis Peevey had 12 hitting three threes; and freshman
Marcus Payne had 10 points and a team leading eight boards.
Jeremy Nicholas had 21 points for the Bears. Tyree Anderson and Joel Brandt finished with 17 each.
This is the second time in the last two seasons that Montana Tech has knocked off a top ten opponent. The Orediggers upset No. 7 Westminster Griffins 75-68 last January.
The Orediggers host Dickinson State Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
