BUTTE, Mont. –
Sammy McGree hit seven three pointers, but No. 22 Rocky Mountain held out for the win 84-74.
McGree had four of her seven threes in the first half helping keep the Diggers in striking range as they trailed the Battlin' Bears 36-34 going into the break. The Orediggers tied the score at 55 at the end of the third quarter and traded leads six times during the game. But the Bears outlasted Tech down the stretch.
The freshman from Butte finished with 26 points hitting 7 of 10 from long. She also had four rebounds and a pair of assists.
McGree traded threes throughout the game with Rocky's Destiny Amezquite who finished with a game high 27 points and went 6 for 10 from downtown. She also had four rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Montana Tech shot 45.6 percent on the night and hit 39.1 percent from three. The Orediggers dominated on the boards pulling down 41 rebounds to 31 by Rocky.
Rocky hit a blazing 10 of 17 from long in the game.
Hattie Thatcher turned in another strong performance netting 12 while dishing five assists and grabbing five rebounds. She also had three steals.
Kaylynn Coverdell had 11 points hitting 5 of 6 from the field. She also hauled in nine rebounds.
Marthat Dembek had nine points and nine rebounds.
Whittney Mitchell had 20 points for the bears and added four rebounds and three assists to her night's totals. Mitchell was 2 for 2 from three.
Montana Tech hits the road next week. The Orediggers travel to Great Falls and Havre for a pair of tough matchups.
