BUTTE, Mont.- The fourth quarter and sending Carroll College to the free throw line doomed the Orediggers chances of upsetting the No. 6 team in the country tonight at Kelvin Sampson Court, where they fell 68-57.
The Orediggers (1-2) raced out to a 15-to-11 advantage in the first quarter and trailed the Saints by just one point at halftime, 32-31. Montana Tech shot 46 percent from the floor in the first half while limiting the Saints to 29 percent.Â
Carroll's 26-point fourth quarter held off the Digger upset attempt with Carroll heading to the line 12 times in the last 10 minutes of the game. The Saints finished the contest shooting 74.1% from the free throw line.Â
Montana Tech was led in scoring by
Mollie Peoples who notched 13 points, while
Mesa Williams added 11 markers.
Tavia Rooney added 9 points and 10 rebounds while
Brooke Heggie tallied 8 points and 6 rebounds.
Dani Urick scored five,
Celestina Faletoi added four, and
Madison Allen scored three.
Hailey Crawford and
Soda Rice each chipped in two.Â
Carroll College (6-0) was led in scoring by Danielle Wagner's 18 points.Â
Montana Tech returns to action on December 31st when they host the Saints once again.Â
