MESA, Ariz. – Montana Tech held off Benedictine in the fourth quarter winning their first game at the Cactus Classic 68-65.
The Oredigger jumped out in the first half taking a 44-35 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Redhawks clawed back into the game after halftime cutting the lead to 52-51 at the end of the third quarter.
Tech led by as many as seven in the fourth, but Benedictine never gave up pulling within one in the final minutes. A late
Soda Rice layup sealed the victory for the Orediggers.
The Orediggers shot 48.1% from the field in the game and hit 7 of 13 from beyond the arc.
The Orediggers (7-7, 0-2) snapped a three-game skid with the victory.
Dani Urick turned in a double-double performance with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Urick went 3 for 4 from beyond the arc.
Tavia Rooney had 16 points and nine rebounds. Rooney missed just one shot going 7 for 8 from the field.
Mollie Peoples and
Madison Allen had eight points each.
Andriana Kasapi led the Redhawks with 16 points.
Next up for the Orediggers is No. 2 Westmont (10-1) on Wednesday.
