BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana Tech track and field teams competed in their first meet, of not just the spring season but first-ever, at the Yellowjacket-Battlin' Bear Ice Breaker Open at Lockwood High School Friday night. Due to weather, the Oredigger men and women competed in only the 1500m.
Becca Richtman finished in second place with a 4:40 .89 which converts to a 4:37.76 due to elevation and qualifies her for the NAIA National meet with her time. Richtman was the top Frontier Conference runner in the event.
Montana Tech's volunteer assistant coach Anna Rogahn paced the field for the event as an unattached runner and finished with a 4:37.54 time in the 1500m.
"Anna did a great job pacing and Becca executed her race plan well to punch her ticket to nationals," said Montana Tech coach
Zach Kughn.
"It was great seeing our athletes compete on the outdoor track for the first time. For most of these athletes it was their first track race in nearly two full years. I think we just needed to get this one under our belt so that we can focus on improving the rest of this spring."
Riley Crissman finished in sixth place with a 5:07.94;
Karolyna Buck finished in 12
th place with a time of 5:29.41;
Carlin Manning took 13
th place with a 5:59.43; and
Payton Huss finished in 14
th with a 6:00.37.

Ian Barville was the top finisher for the Orediggers in the 1500m. Barville finished in 5
th place with a time of 4:17.71.
River Sheppard finished in eighth place with a 4:21.52 and Charlies Carriker finished in 14
th place with a 4:32.73.
